Liner Notes

About the song

“Call Me Arizona — Live from Spring, Texas” is the eleventh track on Left Alone, a return trip down the same road with a different interpretation, a bigger ending, and the crowd along for the ride.

So, what does 'live' mean in this context? Here, it means that the song was performed 'live' in front of my neighborhood community on our July 4th, 2026, celebration in Spring, Texas. So, yes, it was played 'live' on that date. However, the magic of Suno allows for a 'what if?' scenario, where energy of a stadium crowd who knows every lyric and a tour-experienced 'band' brings spontaneity to the performance, and a new dimension to the song, capturing the essence of a live musical experience.

Feel free to shut your eyes and imagine what this concert could be like. And still might be, as technology continues to evolve. The future is bright for entertainment. I hope you agree.

Mission: ROAD RECCE REDUX. Revisit the route, check the landmarks, and find out whether the road home still leads where you remember.

Ask Paddles

“Paddles” are Landing Signal Officers — Naval Aviators who help bring aircraft safely aboard the carrier. The nickname comes from the visual paddles used long ago to guide pilots on final approach.

Day or night, in all weather, they stand watch at the back of the boat to bring their fellow aviators home. And because every carrier landing matters, every pass gets graded.

Paddles are the rush chairmen of the Fleet: part safety officer, part coach, part morale engine. They keep standards high, spirits up, and sometimes have to deliver harsh news.

Don’t take trash, Paddles.

Call Me Arizona — LIVE 2026-07-04 Lyrics

Call Me Arizona - LIVE - 2026-07-04 - Spring, Texas - USA 250th Anniversary

Written by
Bill “Lefty” Lawrence

[Verse 1]
He calls me Arizona, ’cause I like to have my fun
Underneath that desert moon and into morning sun
I still see his suntanned skin, that shimmer in his eyes
He spun a sweet mirage for me to chase through desert skies

[Chorus]
I’m burning up the pavement, tryin’ to catch you in the night
Finding just a trace of you, in taillights burning bright
You leave a trail of heartaches, but I’m closing fast on you
I’ll bet you never knew my name — Arizona’s all you knew
Oh, yeah

[Verse 2]
There was Carolina, with those deep blue ocean eyes
I found her on a windswept beach, right where the tide runs high
She said you got real close to her, then off without a word
Left her standing in the darkness, the waves were all she heard

Then there was Nevada, shining like a neon light
I found her in a crowded room, still all alone tonight
She said you rolled the dice with her, then vanished with the dawn
Counting up her losses, she found that you were gone

[Chorus]
I’m burning up the pavement, tryin’ to catch you in the night
Finding just a trace of you, in taillights burning bright
You leave a trail of heartaches, but I’m closing fast on you
I know you never knew my name — Arizona’s all you knew

[Verse 3]
Then there was Dakota, she was painted like the sky
I found her where the wind don’t stop and no one asks you why
She said you stayed just long enough to make her start to feel
But when you couldn’t give it back, she heard your tires squeal

Montana was a rock for you, to shield you from the road
An echo in the canyons, calling through the cold
She said you almost stayed with her, like you might finally choose
But you left her like you left me… with nothing left to lose

[Chorus]
I’m burning up the pavement, tryin’ to catch you in the night
Finding just a trace of you, in taillights burning bright
You leave a trail of heartaches, but I’m closing fast on you
You never tried to learn my name—Arizona’s all you knew

[Spoken]
Woah! It's good to be home, Texas!

[Chorus]
I’m burning up the pavement, tryin’ to catch you in the night
Finding just a trace of you, in taillights burning bright
You leave a trail of heartaches, but I’m closing fast on you
You never tried to learn my name — Arizona’s all you knew

[Outro - stripped, slow, intimate]
It’s hard to stay in love with you…
Now that Georgia’s on your mind…
(pause)
Will I be Arizona…
When I find you one more time…
