Heaven’s Gate

Redemption pulls into the station.

Liner Notes

About the song

“Heaven’s Gate” is the redemption turn in the Left Alone arc, something I needed to write after how some of the other songs hit me.

Mission: PMCF. Post-Maintenance Check Flight. The maintainers have poured their blood, sweat, and tears to get this bird back airborne. Time to go touch the heavens.

Ask Paddles

“Paddles” are Landing Signal Officers — Naval Aviators who help bring aircraft safely aboard the carrier. The nickname comes from the visual paddles used long ago to guide pilots on final approach.

Day or night, in all weather, they stand watch at the back of the boat to bring their fellow aviators home. And because every carrier landing matters, every pass gets graded.

Paddles are the rush chairmen of the Fleet: part safety officer, part coach, part morale engine. They keep standards high, spirits up, and sometimes have to deliver harsh news.

Don’t take trash, Paddles.
